Who We Are
Southern Homes is a veteran-owned home building company based on the southeast side of Atlanta. In just over 5 years, Southern Homes has partnered with thirteen different promising individuals to help them start their own businesses. We have also seized the opportunity to help those seeking employment in the neighborhoods we build in by introducing them to suitable trades within the building industry.
We donate 10% of all our profits
One hallmark of Southern Homes is our support for those who need a “hand up” not a hand out.
- In 5 years, we have already built 2 homes “at cost”. That’s right. No builder fee.
- Organizing and supporting events resulting in over $300,000 provided to various charities to include first responders
- Support with free labor and materials the complete home renovation for 3 veterans.
- 2 college scholarships for graduating JROTC students each year
- 2 scholarships for overseas church mission trips each year

About the owner, Jerry thomas
Jerry served in the US Army for 20 years. His service in the military included: numerous infantry assignments (Airborne, Ranger, and air assault); War Planner, Space Operations, and Operations Research Systems Analysis positions. He was deployed and served abroad. Upon military retirement, he then served as a Defense Contractor and as a Federal employee for 10 years to mitigate natural and man-made disasters. He then put his Civil and Mechanical Engineering degree to use in continuing to help others by building homes.
Southern Homes supports the community by working with local contractors and other small businesses to build our homes. When we see an opportunity to work with or support a local business or non-profits with similar values, we take it. Investing in the well-being of the community is important to us. We build homes in Spalding, Butts, Lamar, Newton, Monroe, Rockdale, and Henry Counties.
We build your home using a comprehensive checklist for each portion of the build process to ensure quality. While building your home, we encourage you to be a part of the process and even provide you with an update of upcoming requirements each week. Our approach is that we enjoy building your home “with” you.
